The EU has published a regulation to combat deforestation in response to the need to care for our environment. This new legislation brings challenges and obligations for supply chain players and involves your company.
What is our collective role?
Starting in December 2024, companies that bring deforestation-related products to the EU market or export from the EU will be required to sign a due diligence declaration. SMEs have until the end of June 2025 to complete these steps. A simplified procedure can be enjoyed if there is a low risk of deforestation.
Is this regulation applicable to your company’s goods?
The EU focuses on seven commodities and their derived products:
- Rubber (e.g., tires, …)
- Wood (e.g., furniture, paper, firewood, barrels, …)
- Soy (e.g., beans, oil, animal products fed with soy, …)
- Palm oil (e.g., palm nuts, palm oil, …)
- Cocoa (e.g., beans, powder, chocolate, …)
- Coffee
- Cattle (e.g., meat, hides, leather, …)
